Rožaje je grad smješten u dolini rijeke Ibar, u sjeveroistočnom dijelu Crne Gore, okružen planinskim masivima Hajle, Turjaka i Cmiljevice. Na nadmorskoj visini od oko 1.000 metara, grad diše svježim planinskim vazduhom i čuva duh stare bosanske i osmanlijske tradicije. Rožaje graniči sa Srbijom i Kosovom, što mu je kroz vjekove davalo poseban geopolitički i kulturni položaj. Rožaje is a city situated in the valley of the Ibar river, in the northeastern part of Montenegro, surrounded by the mountain massifs of Hajla, Turjak and Cmiljevica. At an elevation of around 1,000 metres, the city breathes fresh mountain air and preserves the spirit of old Bosnian and Ottoman tradition. Rožaje borders Serbia and Kosovo, which has given it a unique geopolitical and cultural position throughout the centuries.

The springs of the Ibar river are located just a few kilometres from the centre, and Hajla mountain (2,403 m) dominates the horizon and invites hikers every season.

Osmanski korijeni Ottoman roots
Područje Rožaja ulazi u sferu osmanlijske uprave u 15. vijeku. Dolina Ibra postaje važan tranzitni pravac koji povezuje Jadransko primorje s unutrašnjošću Balkana. Postepeno se formira naselje koje će postati budući grad. The area of Rožaje came under Ottoman administration in the 15th century. The Ibar valley became an important transit route connecting the Adriatic coast with the interior of the Balkans. A settlement gradually formed that would become the future city.

Nakon Prvog balkanskog rata 1912. godine, Rožaje postaju dio Crne Gore. After the First Balkan War in 1912, Rožaje became part of Montenegro. This period brought significant changes in governance and social structure, but the local cultural and religious tradition remained deeply rooted.
